About TransEDU
In 2016 and 2017, Dr Stephanie Mckendry and Dr Matson Lawrence at the University of Strathclyde conducted research on the experiences of transgender, non-binary and gender diverse people in colleges and universities. The initial research project - TransEDU Scotland - examined the experiences of, and current provision for, trans and gender diverse applicants, students and staff in colleges and universities across Scotland. The research and initial resource development was funded by the Scottish Funding Council.
Based upon these research findings and broader sector engagement, in 2017-2018 we developed open-access resources, guidance and training materials for the sector - and have developed the TransEDU website (www.trans.ac.uk) to provide a central resource for information on supporting trans applicants, students and staff in HE and FE. The development of further resources and leadership models for the wider TransEDU project was supported by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and the University of Strathclyde.
Although the TransEDU research project is no longer formally funded, we aim to periodically update the website and resources, and support the ongoing work of the TransEDU Community of Practice in Scotland.
